What does PlayHearsal do?

It plays a whole play with a voice for every character and stops at your lines. You say them out loud, it listens, and when you have finished it carries on, with dramatic pauses respected. You can rehearse alone, at any hour, as many times as you like.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, and there is no account: no sign-up, no password, no e-mail address. Everything you make stays on your phone.

How do I get a play?

Three ways: open one of the ready-made plays from our repertoire; open a .playhearsal file your company sent you (WhatsApp, e-mail, a download); or create a play and record the voices yourself, line by line. The first time you open the app, a short demo scene is already there to show you how a rehearsal works.

The app does not hear me, or does not move on after my line.

Check three things. The app needs the microphone: if you declined, allow it in the phone's settings for PlayHearsal. It uses your phone's speech recognition, which needs the language of the play installed (on Android: Settings › Google › speech/voice languages; on iOS: Siri & dictation languages) or, without it, an internet connection. And it waits for the end of your line: if you stop halfway, it keeps waiting. The » button moves you on to the next line at any time.

Which languages does it understand?

The app is in English, German, French and Romanian. The prompter follows any language your phone's speech recognition supports, which means dozens, the language of each play being the one it was recorded in.

Where are my plays, and how do I keep a copy?

In the app's storage on your phone, nowhere else. To keep a copy or move a play to another phone, use Share › file on the play: you get one .playhearsal file you can store or send. Uninstalling the app deletes its plays, so export the ones you care about first.

I used OnCue. How do I move my plays?

PlayHearsal is the new name of OnCue, installed as a separate app. In OnCue, share each play as a file, open the file with PlayHearsal, and it lands on your shelf. Once everything is across, you can uninstall OnCue.

How do I delete my data?

Your plays: delete them in the app, or uninstall it. The only things that can ever reach us are activity logs you chose to send: they are deleted automatically after 90 days, and earlier if you ask us at the address below. Details in the privacy policy.
